Water Repellent Methylhydrogen Polysiloxane Impregnation Product
OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 is a low-viscosity, non-toxic, solvent-free methylhydrogen polysiloxane product with trimethylsilyl end groups. Methylhydrogen polysiloxane, with its relatively active Si-H bonds in the molecule, reacts with chemicals containing active groups such as double bonds or hydroxyl groups under the influence of catalysts. The reaction results in the formation of a film, which, using a metal salt catalyst at low temperatures, creates a flexible waterproof coating on various materials. This results in a structure with exceptional water-repellent properties that prevents damage due to moisture, mold, and rust growth. Furthermore, the film formed after using OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 allows for high vapor permeability on the surface, enabling the material to breathe and allowing water and vapor to escape without causing damage.
APPLICATION AREAS
OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 has many application areas. OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 is safely used in the automotive industry for gasket production, in the paper industry, in the production of pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA), in gypsum board production, and in water-repellent and protective film coating processes.
OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 is a flexible impregnating agent effective at high and low temperatures in the automotive industry, with excellent resistance to engine oils and antifreezes.
OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 is frequently used in the automotive industry for impregnating fiber-based soft gasket materials for cylinder heads.
Other applications of OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 include:
* As a waterproofing additive in the gypsum board production process.
* As a hydrophobic agent, lubricant, and adhesive for oil-based bases in cosmetics.
* As a waterproofing agent and plasticizer for fiberglass.
* Used in water-repellent, hydrophobic, impregnating agents and powders for moisture-proofing of glass, ceramics, leather, paper, metal, cement, and marble. * Used in the production of anti-adhesion insulation, release agents for paper, and crosslinking agents.
* Used as a crosslinker for additional type silicone rubber series.
* Used as a base material and a basic intermediate for synthesizing some modified silicone oils, including polyether modified silicone oil and alkyl-based modified silicone oil.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 can be used pure or mixed with suitable catalysts for multiple applications.
OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 can be used for impregnating sulfur-free or sulfur-containing soft gasket materials.
It is hardened by the addition of an organometallic catalyst, such as zirconium, cerium, zinc, or iron octoates, or organotin or organotitanium compounds.
A 7-10% zirconium octoate is usually added to the impregnation bath. The hardening rate depends on the type and amount of catalyst used and the desired degree of gasket softness. Preliminary tests should be carried out for this purpose.
Water Repellent Treatment of Gypsum Wall Boards and Gypsum Fiber Boards:
OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 is added to the mixing/screed water of the plaster. Adding only 0.2-0.4% OPTIFLEX MHS 9400, expressed in terms of plaster, provides a significant reduction in water absorption as required by DIN EN 520.
The effectiveness of OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 depends on the type of plaster, the water/gypsum ratio, and additives such as starch/cellulose or surfactants. Therefore, general recommendations regarding the dosage of OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 cannot be given.
Preliminary tests are always necessary to determine the required amount.
Alkaline components of gypsum can cause a decrease in the bulk density and water repellency of plaster elements.
OPTIFLEX MHS 9400 is not recommended for surface treatment of plaster elements.
